Betrayal, Part 2.

"Wait!" Robin shouted, his eyes huge beneath his mask.

"What?" Wally turned.

"I—I," the boy stuttered, "I… You never told us how you got your powers." Megan and Aqualad shot him confused looks.

"My powers?" he chortled, "from the Light, of course. Their scientists hooked me up nicely, recreated the experiment from the notes I stole from Barry. They even designed my costume! And I know what you're thinking, 'Boy, Wally, that sure is swell! Can I get some neat powers too? How much did it cost?'" he said with an impressive impersonation of a young, 1940s boy, "Well, actually kiddies, they were free! I paid for them, yeah, I promised them my service; my job is to eliminate anyone who can't see the Light."

He laughed again, and then again, soon he was almost doubled over from laugher; the knife in his hand was shaking violently. Little by little he stood up, wiped away a tear and chocked out, "and you were all worried about the Shadows! Get it, Light, Shadows! Oh Hell, that's good."

"Oh my God," Megan whispered, "he's insane."

"I heard that," Wally said, dropping Artemis with a dull thud, and sauntering over to the Martian, knife still in hand.

"So should I kill you first then?" he asked slyly, gingerly scraping the edge of the knife against her cheek, "I wonder, do Green Martians bleed green blood? OH WAIT! You're not a Green Martian! You're a white one! Ahahahaha! Would a knife even hurt you, or would you just morph around it? And if I did slice you, wouldn't you just put yourself back together?" He paced back and forth for a moment, evidentially deep in profound though, and then he sprung.

"What about you, Boy Wonder?" he asked, lunging towards Robin, pressing the knife to his throat, "You still bleed, don't you?"

The boy just stared at him. His expression was blank and cold, the kind a kid might give a parent when he was disappointed in a ruling, the kind Robin was used to using on Batman.

"Bird Boy! Hey Bird Boy! Cat got your tongue? Ahahahaha! Because—"

He stopped himself mid sentence. Robin's eyes were darting back and fourth rapidly, looking in all directions beneath his mask, checking for something.

"What are you doing Birdie? Trying to stall? Trying to keep me here until my bombs blow me up as well? You know I'll get out in time. You know I'm that fast. What's your game little bird? What are you doing?"

Robin stayed silent. His face was still emotionless, his robin's-egg-blue eyes were stuck staring straight into Wally's green ones. Then, after an ear splitting deadlock, a smile formed at the corners of the younger boy's mouth.

"What—" Wally started, "Why are you smiling?"

The smile did not fade, "Answer me! Why are you smiling?"

The smile grew in to a grin, "God damn it, why are you smiling? What do you know?"

The grin turned wicked and knowing, "You little twit—ANSWER ME, DAMN IT, ANSWER ME! WHY ARE YOU SMILING?"

Wally began to shake the boy's lean figure as hard as he could for what little mobility he had, being tied against a pillar. Robin's taunting smile never changed even through the shaking and the screaming in his face, not to mention his head being knocked against the granite behind him with each movement. Finally, with an angry screech, Kid Flash let out all of his frustration in one square punch across Robin's jaw.

The smile dropped. For a moment the world seemed to stop in its tracks. Blood flowed out of his lip and ran down his cheek before hovering on the edge of his chin, threatening to drop to the ground. He tried to smile again, weakly at first, but before he could convince his muscles to do what he was telling them, Wally West, his former best friend and teammate, let loose another punch.

It landed with a crack against his skull. Then another, and another and the punches rained down in a violent storm.

Megan and Aqualad started yelling, screaming for him to stop, but in his state of insanity, it was like they weren't even there. It seemed like the only two things in the world were his fist and Robin's face and since they were the only two in all of existence it seemed only right that they should meet, over and over again, each time with more and more ferocity.

When it was over, when the screaming had stopped and every last shred of anger had been used up, Wally stepped back. Robin's head lulled forward; with the repeated blows to the face he had been knocked unconscious.

In truth the boy had survived worse; when the emotions were right and he was his old cocky self he could take most anything, but these wounds were different, they were the kind of wounds he had never before received, the kind no surgery, how ever expensive, would ever truly heal. It wasn't just his face that was bleeding; it was his heart, his trust that had been bludgeoned.

"Heh—" Kid Flash breathed, wincing, somehow, at his own pain. He brought his arm up high and slung it towards the ground. A line of red blood shot from his fingertips and landed with a crack on the granite floor, "Not smiling now, are you Birdie? NOT SMILING NOW! YOU'RE NOT SMILING NOW!"

A look of confusion and fear spread across Megan's face. Had Robin really given up? What was he trying to do? Was he stupid? A thought struck her. What if he had give up? What if seeing his best friend betray him this way had been too much for him? What if he wasn't able to take it and he thought that it would be better to die by Wally's hand then to live in a world where the two stood at odds? How could he give up like that? Could he be in that much pain?

But the Boy Wonder was not stupid and he was not suicidal. He had merely been observant.

He saw that behind them all, the one person that stood a chance in hell of saving them was waking up. Kid Flash was right; he was stalling, but he was not waiting on any bombs. He was waiting on something—on someone—far more dangerous.
I AM SO SORRY! :nuu:

I posted part one almost three months ago and after all this time this is all I have to post! :tears: Actually, I got this finished almost a month ago but I wanted to get a little bit of headway on the fic before posting it. I'm sad to say that didn't happen. After this I have a couple of sentences but not nearly enough for a full chapter.

This should give you an idea of my consistency when it comes to posting and writing. Once a week? No. Once a month? No. How about whenever I freaking feel like it. :| Never expect anything when it comes to me, I will always break your expectations whether it be good or bad. Just know that I'm trying. If my teachers would give me less busy work to do I might actually be able to get something done! :steaming:

Anyways, this is totally not how I planned the fic to go. I was going to have Robin save everyone but someone else (forgot who it was so long ago!) wrote that so I had to go a totally different way.

Also, please be warned that if you don't like dark, dramatic, semi gory writing you should drop out here. I don't usually like blood, and I will never us a mature content filter but I just want you all to know that this probably won't end happily... Then again, I really have no clue how it will end so you might be happy after all.

Remember, comments, faves, CRITICISMS. (What is it with me and criticisms? I just like getting them on writing, it makes me feel like you were really paying attention.)
